Henry Hollingsworth China Trade Letters, 1811-1812.

This collection is a copy book of unsigned letters, probably by Henry Hollingsworth, supercargo on the Lancaster, a ship owned by Philadelphia China trade merchant Thomas P. Cope. The first letter announces the safe arrival of the Lancaster in Canton in December 28, 1811. The Lancaster sailed for Canton with ship and cargo worth $300,000 on July 19, 1811 and returned on August 5, 1812 at the beginning of the War of 1812. It details purchases of silk, tea, chinaware and nankeens and sales of American cotton, ginseng, and beaver and otter pelts. The back part of the book is an account book from the same time period.
